Root Canal Treatment in Wellesley, MA
A root canal shouldn’t be something you dread — and at Centre Endodontics, it isn’t. Dr. Miguel A. Roque is a Board Certified Endodontist and Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics who performs root canal treatment every day, using 3D imaging, surgical operating microscopes, and laser-assisted disinfection to make treatment precise, comfortable, and efficient. Most patients tell us the experience was easier than getting a filling.

What Is a Root Canal?
Inside every tooth is soft tissue called the pulp, containing nerves and blood vessels. When deep decay, a crack, or trauma allows bacteria to reach the pulp, it becomes inflamed or infected — causing pain, sensitivity, or an abscess. Root canal therapy removes the injured pulp, disinfects the canal system inside the root, and seals it with biocompatible material. Your natural tooth stays right where it belongs. Saving your natural tooth is almost always the best outcome: nothing artificial matches the strength, function, and feel of the tooth you were born with.
Signs You May Need a Root Canal
Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when biting or chewing, a tooth that aches without provocation, swollen or tender gums near one tooth, a pimple-like bump on the gum, or darkening of a tooth can all indicate the pulp is compromised. Some infected teeth cause no symptoms at all and are discovered on an X-ray — which is why we evaluate every referral with our own diagnostic imaging before recommending treatment. If you’re not sure what’s causing your pain, our tooth pain diagnosis expertise is exactly what a specialist is for.
What to Expect at Your Visit
Your appointment begins with a focused examination and imaging — including a 3D CBCT scan when the anatomy calls for it, giving us a view of your tooth’s root structure that traditional X-rays simply cannot provide. Once you’re completely numb, Dr. Roque performs the entire procedure under a surgical operating microscope, cleaning and shaping the canals with precision rotary instruments, disinfecting with Odne Clean and EdgePRO laser-assisted technology, then sealing the canals with modern bioceramic materials. Most treatments are completed in a single visit of about 60–90 minutes. You’ll drive yourself home and, in most cases, return to your normal routine the same day.
Recovery and Aftercare
Mild soreness for a day or two is normal and typically managed with over-the-counter medication. We’ll send a full report to your general dentist, who will place the final restoration — usually a crown — to protect the tooth long-term. We remain available for any questions during your recovery, and your referring dentist receives imaging and treatment notes the same day.
Why Choose a Board Certified Endodontist?
Only a minority of practicing endodontists have completed the rigorous examination process to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Board certification is the highest credential in the specialty — a voluntary, demanding validation of clinical knowledge and judgment. When your tooth is on the line, that distinction matters.
